What is Head Start?

Does your child need Health Insurance?

Does your child need school shots?

Are you looking for a child care center?

How do I apply for free/reduced lunch?
You may apply for Free/Reduced Meal Benefits beginning August 1, 2016 by visiting or the Ascension Parish School Board's website, or by picking an application at any school.

If I qualify, is my child guaranteed a spot?
No. Public Pre-k programs are state and federally funded and income based; therefore, there are limited openings available at each site.

What happens if I don't qualify?
If you don't qualify for a publicy-funded program, paying tuition at a quality rated child care center is an option. The right care and education for your child in these critical years is worth considering. Remember, your choices shape their chances and quality should always be your choice.

How do I know if my child has been accepted into the program?
Once you have submitted all of the required documents, your application will be processed and you will receive an email to the email address you provided on your application.  The email include information about your child's acceptance.
What are the next steps after my child is accepted into a public pre-k school based program?
Teachers will contact you once they return from summer break, which is the first week of August.  You will receive information about your child's teacher, parent orientation meeting dates, student academic screening dates, and student attendance dates.
What school supplies do I need to provide for my child if they are accepted into a public pre-k or Head Start program?
All supplies are provided for students through our school based pre-k and Head Start programs.  Parents may want to provide a small backpack , and a light blanket or towel for their child to use at nap time.
Does my child have to wear uniforms to school?
4 year old pre-k students in our school based classes, including Head Start, are required to wear the same uniform as our older children.  This includes a navy top and khaki bottoms (shorts, pants, skorts, etc).  Students must wear socks and closed toed shoes.  Students in our 3 year old Head Start programs are not required to wear uniforms.  School uniform information may be found at
